Battle of Emuckfau Creek

Located just a few miles north of Horseshoe Bend, Emuckfau Creek is a small tributary of the Tallapoosa River. On January 22, 1814, Andrew Jackson’s army was encamped near the creek
on its way to the Red Stick village of Tohopeka at Horseshoe Bend when they were attacked by an army of Red Stick warriors. Jackson’s men withstood the attack, but soon learned Tohopeka
was too-well fortified to assault, and therefore retreated after the battle.

Emuckfau Creek is in present-day Tallapoosa County, and is within the borders of the Horseshoe Bend National Military Park. Highway 49 crosses the creek just a few miles north of the military
park.
