The Federal Road

The Federal Road was a route through Creek territory connecting central Georgia with the Mobile area. Permission to construct the road was obtained from the Creeks by the federal government in the
1805 Treaty of Washington.  The road became a primary route for settlers to come into the Mississippi Territory. As a consequence, it also became one of the main points of contention between the Creek
Nation and the U.S.

The route is marked by several historic markers.
