Buckhorn Tavern

Located north of Huntsville, Alabama, this site served as stop for
pioneers as they traveled through the region. A portion of
Andrew Jackson’s supply route ran from here to Fort Deposit
on the Tennessee River. John Coffee’s cavalry stored supplies
and camped here in late 1813. The structure earned its
nickname in the late 1850s after a hunter presented a set of
deer antlers to the tavern’s owner.

The original building no longer exists, but an historic marker
interpreting the tavern is located at the intersection of
Winchester and Maysfield Road north of Huntsville.
