Fort Hawkins

Named after Creek Indian Agent Benjamin Hawkins, Fort Hawkins was constructed in 1806 on the Ocmulgee
River at the site of what later became the city of Macon. The fort served as an important gathering spot for troops sent to fight both the Red Sticks and the British along the Gulf Coast.

The fort site is located in Macon, Georgia, on Fort Hill Street adjacent to the Ocmulgee National Monument. The
site contains a reproduction of one of the fort's two blockhouses. It is open to the public, but appointments are necessary.
