Fort Bainbridge

Fort Bainbridge was constructed along the Federal Road in early 1814 to help protect the supply line connecting Fort Hull and Fort Mitchell. It is believed to have been named in honor of U.S. Naval Captain William
Bainbridge.

The fort was located near the current boundary line between Macon and Russell Counties in eastern Alabama. It is unmarked and its exact location unknown. This photo, showing a dirt road in Macon County which follows the original route of the Federal Road, is believed to have been taken very near the location of the fort.
