Fort Mitchell

General John Floyd ordered the construction of Fort Mitchell in November 1813 to serve as a base of supply for his expedition into Creek territory. Named in honor of Georgia Governor David Mitchell, the
fort featured two blockhouses and several supporting structures.
A full-scale reconstruction of the fort stands at its original location in Fort Mitchell Historic Site on Highway 431 a few miles south of Phenix City, Alabama.
