George Stiggins was a Creek Indian who personally knew many important Red Stick leaders. He authored a book, Creek Indian History, in his later years which uniquely chronicled the war.

A historic marker commemorating his life is located on old Highway 80 in Macon County, Alabama just east of the town of Shorter.
