The Creek War and the War of 1812
Fort Burrows
Fort Burrows and nearby Fort Decatur are perhaps the two best-preserved Creek War or War of 1812 forts in existence.
Fort Burrows was a small fortification built in the spring of 1814 on the banks of the Tallapoosa River opposite of Fort Decatur. The fort was one of a chain of fortifications protecting a supply line stretching into central Georgia.
The site of Fort Burrows lies in southeastern Elmore County, Alabama across the Tallapoosa River from the E.V. Smith Research Center in Macon County, Alabama. It is unmarked, and lies on private land.
